Why Familiar Glow Isn’t Just Another Candle Brand

There are a lot of candle brands out there.

So when we created Familiar Glow, we knew we didn't want to make just another candle company. We wanted to create something that made you feel something.

Something that could make you smell a fragrance, open a pouch or read a memory and suddenly think:

“Oh my God. I remember that.”

Because at Familiar Glow, we don't start with a fragrance...

We Start With a Memory

Familiar Glow was created by us, Natalie and Rebecca — two Essex mums who grew up in the 80s and 90s.

Our fragrances begin with the ordinary little moments we remember from childhood.

Carrying your duvet downstairs and making a nest on the sofa. The smell of Mum's coffee drifting through the house. Freshly cut grass when school was nearly over. Nanna making crumble from something she'd grown in the garden. Spending forever choosing a VHS for movie night.

Then we ask: what did that memory smell like?

That's how fragrances such as Mum's Sunday Morning Coffee, Duvet Day, Schools Out, Nanna's Garden Crumble and Movie Night Memories are born.

The fragrance isn't the beginning of the idea.

The memory is.

Wax Melts That Look Like Our Childhood

We wanted the nostalgia to go further than fragrance.

Open one of our Iconic Wax Melt Pouches and you'll find shapes inspired by the things our generation remembers — handheld games, Tamagotchis, roller boots, trolls, old-school TVs, Bubble Gum Tape, Ring Pops and boomboxes.

They're designed to create one very particular reaction:

“I had one of those!”

Even our Mixtapes take something familiar from our childhood and reimagine it in wax, combining two fragrances and two memories with oversized cassette and boombox melts.

The Story Is Part of the Product

Every Familiar Glow fragrance has a memory behind it.

Sometimes it's Natalie's. Sometimes it's Rebecca's.

But although the exact story might be ours, the feeling often belongs to an entire generation.

Because scent has an incredible way of bringing back things you'd completely forgotten.

A coffee can remind you of Mum. Fresh-cut grass can take you straight back to the school field. Popcorn can suddenly have you standing in a video shop choosing a film again.

That's what we want Familiar Glow to do.

Nostalgic – But Proper Home Fragrance

The memories might make Familiar Glow different, but the products still have to smell beautiful.

Our candles are hand poured in Essex using Premium Apricot & Coconut Wax, while our wax melts are made with Premium CocoPro Wax.

We test our fragrances and candles because nostalgia might make you pick up a Familiar Glow product for the first time — but the fragrance has to make you want to use it again.

More Than a Candle. A Memory.

Familiar Glow is for the generation that remembers cassette tapes, video shops, roller boots, Tamagotchis and Saturday mornings before smartphones.

We're not trying to reinvent candles.

We're using fragrance to bring back the little moments that made growing up in the 80s and 90s so special.

And if one of our products makes you stop, smile and say:

“I'd forgotten all about that.”

Then we've done exactly what we set out to do.

Smells like home. Feels like childhood.
